Drawing

For me drawing is really a skill in seeing. If you cannot see what is in front of you properly, then there is really no way you can translate it through the vehicle of the body out the hands and fingers. The extension of a pencil, piece of charcoal, or a brush will only muddy the waters further. That’s not to say that there’s not a place for abstraction or entirely dreamed up scenes; obviously there is. I’m most interested in – whatever medium I’m using – minimizing my own biases so that I can translate more and more accurately a perception, whether inner or outer. This actually applies to everything I do. I like to get to the essence or essential nature of a situation which means getting out of my own way as much as possible.
